About Me

There is always that awkward moment between finding a nice-looking blog and finding out what it is about. This page is intended to fill that gap.

I take care of five dogs, 28 horses of which five are my riding horses, a Tristan and a clutch of cats. Most of what I cook is done on an old-style wood-burning oven which really makes everything harder because you don't have temperature control, it takes longer and a lot of it is guess work. It's all very old and very rustic on the farm, but we've been living there since 2009 and for the most part it seems to work.

Tristan spends his time helping to manage things, driving around a whole lot and studying his History degree. I spend mine cooking, horsing, running crisis control and avoiding my thesis.

As a home cook, I just cook the hearty old-fashioned meals you'd expect in the country for Sunday lunch. I won't be talking about any nifty techniques or fancy things. If however, you are looking for simple home recipes, you have come to the right place.

As a rider I like not to dwell on things. A good friend, and great horse-woman once told me 'fake it until you make it', a degree of fear is a natural part of riding but if we dwell on things it will rule our lives. Getting on is the battle half won.

This blog was started so that I can discuss the great loves of my life: horses, dogs and cooking, but also to be a platform for my incessant moaning.

I cook.

I ride, though not always convincingly.

We both, as always, have much to learn
